Sermermiut & Icefjord Hiking

2 hours

Easy

To experience the breathtaking views of the icebergs from the Ilulissat Icefjord, join us on a picturesque hike to Sermermiut and the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We'll begin our journey at the former heliport and quickly make our way down the wooden route into the UNESCO region.

The well-known Sermermiut ruins will thereafter be our next stop.

Different Inuit groups have inhabited Sermermiut for over 4,000 years. Sermermiut is the best location for a colony in the harsh and ruthless environment of Greenland because of the abundance of wildlife in the area and the fact that the entire area is protected by enormous hills.

On the journey, we will pass by the stone remnants of the old turf houses, which are perched on a few nearby hills with views of the icefjord. At its peak, Sermermiut was home to more than 250 Inuit.
