Mountain Valley Hike

10 timer

Udfordring

A full-day adventure combining a scenic boat journey through Nuuk Fjord with a breathtaking hike across a remote mountain valley to Qooqqut.

A 15 km hike through aremote valley between twofjord shores

This full-day adventure pairs a scenic open-boat ride into Nuuk Fjord with a 6–7 hour hike

from Sulussugutip across the valley to Qooqqut. The trail crosses mountain lakes, glacial

streams, and broad tundra, about 500 metres of elevation gain and loss across 15 km. It's one of

the most rewarding point-to-point routes in West Greenland, and one of the quietest.

Guided by an experienced local hiker, the day is built for fit walkers. The boat drops you on one

side of the fjord and picks you up at the end of the trail on the other, no doubling back, no

shuttle out and shuttle in. Drink from the rivers as you go. Lunch and warm gear are included.

The valley itself is what the trip is really about. Glacial streams running clear over polished

stone, lakes that mirror the sky for hours, the deep silence of tundra walked rather than passed

through. By the time the boat picks you up at Qooqqut, the day has worked its way into your

legs and the kind of memory that lasts.

      Hvad skal man medbringe

Since we’ll be spending the day in Arctic conditions, it’s important to dress properly. We recommend bringing a windproof and waterproof jacket, warm layered clothing like wool or fleece, sturdy hiking boots for the trek, a hat, gloves, and a scarf, and sunglasses to protect against glare from the ice. A small backpack is also useful for carrying personal items.

We provide prepared lunch at the bay, as well as warm drinks on the boat, so you won’t need to bring food or beverages, but you are welcome to bring what you feel like bringing.
